Dropbox itself I've chosen to trust (for now) so long as it's direct communication from my own client. The printer does have a lot of cloud-based functionality, but it all involved giving some third party full access to my Dropbox and having all my documents flow through some external cloud system, and I just wasn't comfortable with that.
However, I have a Synology NAS on my home network, and Dropbox, so I figured I could work some sort of magic there. My build was complicated by the fact that when at home my laptop is almost always connected to my corporate VPN, meaning I can't actually connect to the printer on my local network.

I explored a lot of alternate scanning packages, both freeware and commercial, and found nothing that would do this post-processing magic automatically. QNAPs and Synologies have distinctive MAC addresses, so if I can scan the network for MAC addresses and pipe the output to a file I can easily get the info I need. The software would then do prost-processing to interleave the document pages to create a final single PDF with all the pages in the correct order. Most notably (for me anyway) is a lack of duplex scanning functionality.īy duplex scanning, I mean the ability to take a stack of two-side documents and run them through the scanner twice, creating two PDFs consisting of odd and even pages.
